TITANIC - PRIDE OF THE WHITE STAR - THE MUSICAL

2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of MRS Titanic, with anniversary crusies being planned already and media coverage extremely high, this show is an absolute winner for your school, youth theatre or production company.

April 1956 sees and old man and his two grand children searching in a dusty old attic for material to help with a school project when they come across a chest.  Little did the children know that the chest held memories for their grandfather of one of the most significant disasters in maritime history.  Artefacts that brought memories of the fateful night in April 1912 when the RMS Titanic sank to the bottom of the ocean taking with her over 1500 souls.

Titanic – Pride of the White Star dramatically tells the story not only of the events of that terrible night but some of the lesser known stories of heroism and personal sacrifice of some of her passengers and crew.  It tells also the story of how three items came to give them a common link to our hero, Charles Joughin, chief baker on Titanic.  He is now an old man helping a new generation to understand the events and lessons of that tragic night.

The story of the tragic maiden voyage of RMS Titanic is one of the most enthralling and enduring of the century. This production captures the sense of adventure and optimism of the Edwardian period and the deep sense of loss which touched all levels of society. The plot focuses on the story of the Chief Baker Charles Joughin and how he saved the lives of several others passengers on that fateful night in April 1912, it also included the aftermath bringing the story up to the discovery of the wreck by Robert Ballard.

If you are looking for a show which can involve big numbers – this is it!
The show can be performed with either a large or medium size cast. A primary version is also available (email here for details). There are opportunities for leading parts, a large number of smaller parts which can be multi-roled and ample opportunities for several chorus groups.

The show requires

  • 3 Narrators. These characters carry most of the storyline between them
  • Other characters. These are based on real passengers and crew. There are a host of named parts. Most of these characters only have a few lines to say so some cast members may play more than one part.
  • Solo singers. These could be characters if singing voices were good enough.
  • Chorus. There are several chorus groups in the show. These include passengers of all classes and crowds on the quayside.
  • Performance support team. Lighting, Projection (if used) Make up, Stage Crew, Wardrobe team, Front of House audience involvement.

The stunning original musical score is available on CD and can be used as a backing track in place of a band. A piano score is available to assist rehearsals.

Full Houses and Standing Ovations
Performance to date have reported playing to packed houses, with many people booking a return ticket. Standing ovations are common.

Audience Involvement
Audiences are encouraged to take part in the story by receiving a boarding ticket containing the name of an actual passenger and then checking against the survivors list in the foyer at the end of the show. Buckets of iced water are available for audience to sample the water temperature experienced on the night Titanic sank.

Box Office Bonanza
Potential income from staging ‘Titanic – Pride of the White Star’ is considerable. Full houses generate income anyway. Experience shows that sales of cast recordings always do well. Companies can use the backing CD to support cast singing, giving a professional feel to the recording. Video sales do well as do still photographs of cast members in costume on the set.

Many audiences have left productions of ‘Titanic-the unsinkable dream’ with tears in their eyes, struck by the power of the story told in ‘Drama, Music, Dance and Visual Spectacular’. If you are looking for a show which will bring the crowds in and give ample opportunity for actors, narrators, dancers, singers and technicians – this is one of the best!
